Renew Annual Local Business Tax Receipt Prior to September 30

Each year, July 1 marks the beginning of the annual renewal season for the Local Business Tax Receipt for all Weston businesses. Invoices will be generated for all LBTR holders in the City. Be on the lookout for the renewal email, which will contain your invoice and payment instructions.  If you are a Weston business owner and you do not receive an email by mid-August, please log in to your account, click on Search, and select Local Business Tax Receipt to verify the balance due to renew your Local Business Tax Receipt for the upcoming year.

You will notice that the renewal fee has changed. While the State of Florida allows municipalities to raise the annual rate by 5% every two years, this year is only the sixth time since Weston was incorporated (in 1996) that the Local BTR fee has increased.

Payment is due by September 30, 2025. Penalties will be imposed on all unpaid balances beginning October 1.  AVOID the penalties and pay as soon as possible.

How Do I Receive My Local Business Tax Receipt?

Once you have completed the filing process in the new system, you will be able to download your Local Business Tax Receipt from the online portal.

What is the Penalty for Failure to Pay the Local Business Tax?

The penalty is up to 25% of the business tax due, in addition to any other penalty provided by law or ordinance, for any person who engages in any business within the City without first obtaining a LBTR.  Persons who do not pay the required taxes within 150 days after initial notice of the tax being due are subject to a penalty equal to the annual amount of the Business Tax or $250.00, whichever is less, in addition to possible civil action and penalties. Penalties can't be waived as the City Code does not provide for administrative relief by staff, administrators or elected officials.

Can I Transfer My Local Business Tax Receipt (LBTR) to a New Location and/or to a New Owner?

Yes. The Business Owner/Applicant is responsible for notifying the City of any changes in the business address, business owner mailing address, and/or any changes of the business or corporation name. Any receipt may be transferred from one location to another within the City, for a transfer fee of 10% of the annual tax, not to exceed $25. A local business tax receipt may be transferred to a new owner when there is a bona fide sale of the business, upon payment of a transfer fee of 10% of the annual tax, not to exceed $25.

All business changes  are to be notated to your online account.
