Mary Molina-Macfie

Elected to the Weston City Commission in November 2018, Mary Molina-Macfie has devoted her tenure to championing causes that improve public health, community safety, civic engagement, and quality of life for all Weston residents. She was the former Alternate Presiding Officer for the City Commission and has previously served as the First Alternate to the Broward League of Cities Mayor for four years. In January 2021, she was appointed by the Broward League of Cities as an alternate to the Broward County Water Advisory Board.

 A Weston resident since 1991, Commissioner Molina-Macfie has been an unwavering advocate for families, students, and community associations. Her public service and activism began with a deeply personal mission to improve indoor air quality in schools, spurred by her children's health challenges. Her efforts led to the implementation of mold remediation protocols and indoor air quality policies throughout Broward County schools.

She is known for her hands-on, grassroots leadership and for being a voice for often-overlooked community needs. Among her many initiatives and accomplishments:

Community Initiatives & Achievements

Founded Veterans of Weston (VOW) and continues to serve as a board member.

Organized Weston’s first municipal food distributions to support families in need.

Created "Commissioner’s Corner," a monthly one-on-one dialogue opportunity with residents.

Initiated Weston’s first “Coffee with a Cop” for community association board members.

Pushed for the removal of artificial scents from municipal buildings and the Bonaventure Town Center Club to accommodate fragrance sensitivities.

Advocated for and helped implement scent-free policies in Broward County’s Tools for Schools program.

Public Safety & Policy Leadership

Instrumental in passing the strictest sexual offender ordinances in Florida, here in Weston.

Closed the “Broward loophole,” ensuring cities are notified when registered offenders visit.

Appointed to the Broward County Condominium Structural Issues Committee following the Surfside collapse, to review and improve high-rise building safety.

Association and Civic Leadership

Introduced training classes for HOA and condo board members and managers.

Developed cost-saving measures for residents, including:

Smarter tree and root barrier policies saving millions in potential damages.

“Staging areas for associations” during emergencies, significantly cutting response costs.

Recognition & Humanitarian Work

  • Honored by the Broward County Commission during Women’s History Month 2021 as one of the “Valiant Women of the Vote” for her role in registering Hispanic voters and ensuring bilingual communications in Weston.
  • Following Hurricane Maria, she helped house and support Puerto Rican families who fled devastation, organizing aid and working with the U.S. Coast Guard and YMCA to support evacuees.

Personal Background

Mary was born in New York City to parents of Puerto Rican heritage. Her father, Louis Molina, was a decorated Army veteran of the Korean War and a two-time Navy frogman (SEAL). His legacy of service and strong family values deeply influenced her commitment to public service. After his passing in 2016, Mary adopted his beloved Chihuahua, “Taco,” bringing him to Florida where he quickly adapted to English commands.

Mary is a proud wife and mother to two daughters:

Her husband Bob is a successful small business owner, and her adult daughters Heather and Brook are both Construction Project Managers with Tesla.

When not volunteering or advocating for her community, Mary enjoys reading, quiet time with her dog Taco, and has finished her first-degree black belt in karate.
