WestonGOV Academy

General Information

  • Overview: WestonGOV Academy is a civic engagement and education program focused on informing residents of the City of Weston about the operations of their municipal government.

  • Mission: To develop civic ambassadors within Weston neighborhoods who can become trusted and reliable sources of information for their neighbors. To help develop a better understanding of Weston’s local government and what is involved in delivering and maintaining services to the residents of Weston.

Program Information

  • Participant Information
    • 20 participant maximum per class year.  Registration is offered annually online.
    • Must be age 18 or over and a resident of the City of Weston.
    • Participants must commit to all sessions. (Must attend six out of seven sessions for successful completion of the program.)
    • Application is first-come, first-selected. Waitlist available in case someone does not start the program or drops out.
    • Will be required to have a background check.

A Resident Academy

A comprehensive seven-week program offered to the public annually. The program familiarizes participants with the operations and services of Weston's government departments through engaging presentations and hands-on activities.

Through this program, participants will hear directly from experts in their field and tour facilities which keep Weston the most desirable place to live, work and play.

  • Session 1 - April 9, 2026
  • Session 2 - April 23, 2026
  • Session 3 - May 7, 2026
  • Session 4 - May 21, 2026
  • Session 5 - June 4, 2026
  • Session 6 - June 18, 2026
  • Session 7 - July 2, 2026
  • Recognition Ceremony - July 6, 2026 at City Commission Meeting

Session Information

  • 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
  • Bi-weekly meetings on Thursday evenings for seven sessions

  • City History/ City Clerk & Elections/City Structure/Sunshine Law & Ethics
  • Finance, Budget & Procurement
  • Law Enforcement Services / Tour and Activity or Demonstrations
  • Fire and Emergency Services/Fire Prevention /Tour & Activity
  • Public Works and Utilities/Storm Preparedness & Emergency Management/ Information Technology
  • Parks and Recreation (it's not all fun & games) / Landscaping / Wetland Preservation
  • Planning and Zoning/Building & Permitting/Code Enforcement/Tour

There will be a meet and greet from your City Commission. One member will come to the beginning of each session to welcome our participants.

A Question-and-Answer session has been built in to the end of each session to ensure we get to any questions you might have. 

Application for the WestonGOV Academy Program

The application period for the 2026 WestonGOV Academy Program is now closed.

Registration will open for the 2027 WestonGOV Academy Program in February 2027. The registration link will be provided on this page.
