Know How to Recognize Census Workers
Over the next few months, Census 2020 workers have made their way throughout our community ahead of the 2020 Census to assist us in getting a complete count for Census 2020. It’s important to know that Census workers are employed from the hours of 9:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m. and are readily identifiable by an ID badge that includes their name, photograph, Department of Commerce watermark and an expiration date.
Upon meeting, expect that the Census worker will present a letter on Census Bureau letterhead stating why they are visiting your residence and will carry an official bag and/or laptop with the Census Bureau logo.
They will never ask for your social security number, money or donations, anything on behalf of a political party or bank or credit card account numbers.
Census workers will again canvass neighborhoods after April 1st next year. If you do not complete your census questionnaire or if it is submitted incomplete, a Census worker will visit your household to assist with completion. It is important to complete your questionnaire in full before April 1, 2020 -- therefore it will not be necessary for anyone to do a follow up at your home.
When in doubt, call the Atlanta Regional Office at 1-800-424-6974 from 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time.
