Thank You, Mr. Flint
What do you say to a man who has dedicated the last 23 years of his life to structuring this City to be the best for today and for the future? If you ask him, you just say good-bye as he doesn’t look back, he only looks forward. But we have to look back and say THANK YOU, thank you for your expertise, your dedication, your commitment, your precision, your vision, your insight, and your leadership.
In the very first Annual Report put out by the City, there was a quote from City Manager Flint that made clear where he stood and what he expected: "Our accomplishments are the rewards of our commitment."
From that first year, and throughout this last year, Mr. Flint has overseen many accomplishments and reaped many rewards on behalf of the residents and business owners of Weston. Most recently, Safest Small Cities in America for 2019; Florida's 50 Safest Cities of 2019; 101 Safest Cities in America; ISO Rating of 1 (highest available); The Best Small Cities to Start a Small Business in 2019; 2018 Best Place to Live in Florida; 2018 Best Place to Live in America; 2018 Best City for Florida Families; 2018 Digital Cities Survey Winner; Best Small Cities for Small Businesses; Healthy Weight Champion 2018 & 2019; 16 Great Towns to Visit in 2018, and the list goes on and on and on. Awards are certainly nice. They reinforce the effort that has been put forth to establish a high quality community. But Weston visa vi John Flint did not do this solo. Weston's strength as a top city comes from its strong quality schools, high quality public safety services and low crime, access to quality health care, top notch parks and recreation, and a fiscally sound government. When added with the intangible factors of immaculate and distinctive landscaping and aesthetics, cultural offerings, a spiritual community, community spirit and involvement, and a unique governmental structure leveraging a contract style of management - then you have the best. It took a unique leader however, to leverage all of these organizations, individuals and aspects of the government into a unified community that today is the envy of others near and far.
From the beginning, John Flint took it very personally that people who bought in Weston were building an investment for their lifetime and the lives of their children. At the same time, he was building the foundation that would sustain the City's growth and ensure Weston's lifestyle would be preserved, maintained and enhanced, never resting on his laurels, always moving forward. John Flint has always led with the philosophy that to stay the best, you have to invest in yourself - maintaining essential physical and operating infrastructure, technology upgrades and financial discipline. One only has to read his budget message, which always lays out the fiscal facts for the present and future very clearly, whether one likes the outlook or not.
Look around you. Go to a pristine park. Drive down a tree-lined street. Enjoy City information online. Call for Police or Fire service. Enjoy your property values. All this and more is a reason to say thank you to City Manager John R. Flint.
WISHING YOU ONLY THE BEST IN RETIREMENT!
