Emerald Estates DR @ Weston RD: Traffic Signal Replacement Update
The traffic signal on the SW corner of Weston Road and Emerald Estates Drive was struck by a large private truck on June 24th breaking the signal and pole. The damaged mast arm (horizontal portion and the davit arm) was removed and the intersection was opened to traffic with a temporary traffic control system.
Broward County Traffic Engineering evaluated and installed a temporary signal at the intersection which has been fully operational.
September: In order to meet current wind load standards, a new mast arm design is required for restoration of the traffic signal at this location. As such, the City issued a work authorization to our consultant for design services. The design is complete and recently approved by Broward County Traffic Engineering Division.
Based on the new design, the City is in the process to procure the mast arm and the installation services. Based on the lead time for the mast arm and the bidding, permitting, and installation, it is anticipated that restoration of the traffic signal system will be by the end of March, 2020. The City will bill the insurance carrier for the private driver at fault in the accident.
