FAA Seeking Public Input

Post Date:05/30/2019 4:05 PM
The Federal Aviation Administration is seeking public input on the following two projects that impact the Miami / Fort Lauderdale area.

South-Central Florida Metroplex (FAA's NextGen initiative)

Part of the FAA's efforts to modernize our nation's air transportation system, known as NextGen or Next Generation Air Transportation System, are a series of Metroplex areas.  By consolidating metropolitan areas with multiple airports and complex air traffic patterns into a single Metroplex, the FAA intends to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion in major metropolitan areas across the country. Metroplexes provide a successful way to de-conflict airspace in congested areas with multiple airports.

With a goal to increase the safety, efficiency, capacity, predictability, and resiliency of aviation in the United States, the NextGen overhaul brings together innovative technologies, capabilities, and procedures that aim to improve air travel. The FAA has completed or is at some point in the study, design, evaluation, or implementation phase for 12 metroplexes - including the South-Central Florida Metroplex.

Although public meetings were held throughout South Florida in April and early May, there is still time to give your feedback on the South-Central Florida Metroplex.  Before you do, learn more about the effort:
