Indian Trace Park Progress

Post Date:05/30/2019 10:56 AM

Indian Trace Park, located at 400 Indian Trace, adjacent to Indian Trace Elementary School, is currently receiving a face-lift and much more after 20+ years.

The former facility was a little sparse and it is hoped that the improvements will create a desire for area residents to utilize the enhanced amenities which will now also provide easy access to the newly upgraded park. Many residents did not realize the land next to the school was actually a City park. The City wanted to improved accessibility to the park (including walkways and parking) and add amenities that were reflective of the experience at our other parks.  One of our goals was to provide residents with better access to the park, including a dedicated parking lot that did not have to be accessed via the school.

Renovations include the following highlights:

  • New playground with shade canopy and poured in place safety surfacing
  • Renovated baseball and multipurpose fields
  • Resurfaced basketball courts
  • Fitness stations with shade canopy - The fitness stations include an Ab Crunch/Leg Lift, Cardio Stepper, Chest/Back Press, Pull-Up/Dip, and an Elliptical station.
  • Bike Fixit Repair Station
  • Parking lot
  • Restroom
  • Lighted walkway

Dedicated parking, accessed from Saddle Club Road, will allow park use without intrusion on the Indian Trace Elementary School campus.  The school will still have use of the park through gates that can be locked from the school side.  This is the same arrangement the City has at Gator Run Park and Windmill Ranch Park, also adjacent to elementary schools.

There will be ADA improvements to the park that include playground equipment & fitness equipment that are ADA compliant with rubber surfacing that promotes accessibility, walkways, restrooms and the parking lot all built in compliance. Modifications to existing drainage, water, and sewer infrastructure were necessary before vertical structures could go up.  The public will have seen a lot of dirt moved around before this phase of equipment installation and before the beautification and landscaping phase begins.

Park users will also enjoy lighted walkways, improved open spaces and a convenient restroom.  Rest assured that the courts will not be lit at night so as not to disturb nearby neighborhoods, and there are no bleachers as the fields are not intended for organized sports leagues.  Indian Trace Park is a neighborhood park and fields are for use on a first-come, first-serve basis by residents, families and visitors.

Completion is anticipated to be the end of August 2019, dependent upon weather.
