2018 Mayor's Challenge & Rotary Run for Tomorrow Events
2018 ROTARY RUN FOR TOMORROW EVENTS A HUGE SUCCESS
HALF-MARATHON, 5K RUN, MAYOR'S CHALLENGE
AND HEALTH & FITNESS FESTIVAL
Held on Sunday, December 9, 2018, the Annual Rotary Run For Tomorrow events were a smashing success - as in smashing all registration records! The Half-Marathon and 5K drew 1500 participants, coming out to Weston for a beautiful morning run. In its 21 year history, The Rotary Club of Weston’s Annual Run for Tomorrow & Family Health and Fitness Festival has generated well over $1,000,000 for local charities, non-profit organizations and The Rotary Foundation.
After the early morning races, over 2,000 individuals were signed up for the Mayor's Challenge at 9:00 AM! For this event, the Weston elementary school with the most students completing the 1-mile walk, as a percentage of their school enrollment, received the Commission Cup trophy and the grand prize of $4,000! This year, for the eighth year in a row, that honor went to Imagine Charter School. The second place honors and $2,000 went to Sagemont Lower School and third place and a $1,000 check went to Eagle Point Elementary School. Congratulations go to each winning school and EVERY school, student, parent, principal, administrator and teacher that made this event such and overwhelming success.
Teaching our students the importance of healthy lifestyle choices such as exercise and nutrition from an early age is essential to winning the battle of obesity in our country and putting children on a path to lifelong fitness and healthy lifestyle choices for improved physical and mental health.
After the Mayor's Challenge Walk, everyone enjoyed the free Health and Fitness Festival featuring booths with health-related and sports activities and competitions, activities that include D.J., face painting, concerts and presentations, food trucks, paint the police car, dunk tank, children and adult obstacle courses, massages and much more.
Thank you to the great people at The Rotary Club of Weston who spend all year making this event happen which goes on to help so many.
