Reading for the Record!

Post Date:10/25/2018 1:00 PM

On October 25, 2018, people came to schools, community centers, libraries and classrooms to read this year's Read for the Record®book selection Maybe Something Beautiful  to millions of young children in communities nationwide.  Weston Mayor Daniel Stermer and City Director of Communications Denise Barrett-Miller gladly participated at Manatee Bay Elementary School.  If you have ever read to a child and seen the sparkle in their eyes... imagine reading to an entire class.  BSO Weston Deputies Gago and Hernandez Read for the Record at Indian Trace Elementary, delighting students with their animated expressions and enthusiasm.

This annual campaign was launched over a decade ago to highlight the importance of building early literacy and language skills for EVERY child, so that all children have the opportunity to enter kindergarten prepared to succeed.

This year Broward County Public Schools partnership with the Children's Services Council and multiple Broward County early childhood stakeholders provides a free copy of the book to each pre-kindergarten and kindergarten child in Broward County - that is 40,000 books for 40,000 children!
