Thirty years ago this week, Weston officially became a city. But the story of Weston began long before incorporation — with residents who took an active role in shaping their community and laying the groundwork for the city that would follow.

Four-Part Podcast Series Begins Thursday, September 3

To mark Weston's 30th anniversary, we are launching “Weston at 30: A History Podcast,” a special four-part series that takes listeners back to the beginning through the memories and stories of John R. Flint, Weston's first City Manager.

Flint was part of Weston's story before there was a City of Weston in Florida. As a resident and member of the Indian Trace Community Development District, he witnessed the community's transition from developer control to resident governance. He ultimately became the City's first City Manager, serving from shortly after incorporation through 2019. Now, he is sharing that history in a way that is different from a traditional interview. He is telling the story.

The four-part series follows Weston's journey, reaching back to the early days of the community and the subsequent incorporation in 1996, the challenges of establishing a new city and the decisions that shaped its government. Later episodes will look at how Weston built its police, fire rescue, parks, infrastructure, land use planning and other city services, while embracing communication, civic engagement and community connections that helped shape Weston's identity along the way.

Throughout the month of September, listeners will hear the stories behind the history — including early meetings held before City Hall existed, community celebrations and the humble beginnings of the City's first City Hall, complete with borrowed furniture.

Each episode stands on its own while moving the story forward, blending nostalgia with the decisions, challenges and people that helped build Weston.
