Weston Secures Millions in Transportation Grant Funding
Through Broward MPO Programs

The video above, highlighting the Broward Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) Roads for Families Program, was featured in the MPO's July 20 weekly newsletter.

The City of Weston has benefited from this competitive grant program over multiple funding cycles.  Below is an overview of the program and the transportation improvements that have been awarded funding in Weston.

Roads for Families is a people-first planning initiative focused on safely and efficiently moving people, not just vehicles. The initiative includes the Roads for Economic Vitality (REV) Program, which provides competitive funding to municipalities for small local transportation projects that strengthen neighborhoods, improve mobility, and enhance quality of life throughout Broward County.

Eligible projects include complete streets projects, traffic calming measures, intersection improvements, ADA accessibility upgrades, mobility hubs, bus shelters, bike racks and technology advancements such as transit signal priority and traffic control devices.

Securing funding is highly competitive. Projects submitted by municipalities throughout Broward and other eligible organizations are evaluated  using an objective tool to evaluate and rank the applications developed under the direction of the MPO Board.  The evaluation incorporates multiple geographic datasets.

Weston submits applications in every funding cycle, aggressively pursuing grant opportunities that can help deliver transportation improvements while reducing the financial impact on city taxpayers.

The following City projects have been approved for funding through the program:

The REV Program currently provides up to $4 million for construction costs. The funding cap applies to construction costs only and does not include eligible design and Construction Engineering and Inspection (CEI) costs.  When projects are delivered through the Local Agency Program (LAP), eligible design and CEI expenses may also be reimbursable.

Weston's success in securing multiple grants reflects the City's ongoing commitment to pursuing outside funding opportunities for transportation improvements.

The Broward MPO is just one of many grant partners
the City actively pursues for a wide range of projects, helping to deliver infrastructure enhancements, landscaping, programs and more, while maximizing the value of local tax dollars.
