Six BSO Weston Firefighters stand as they are honored, with Fire Chief and City Commissioners

The Weston City Commission recognized the BSO Weston Fire Rescue and Emergency Medical Services employees of the month during the City Commission meeting on Monday, June 15, 2026.

Fire Chief Todd Draizin spoke in recognition of the outstanding response this crew provided to a critically injured trauma patient following a witnessed seizure and subsequent fall.

"During this incident, you responded to a 57-year-old male who suffered a seizure while standing and fell onto a concrete walkway, resulting in a significant head injury. Upon arrival, you were confronted with a rapidly evolving and complex medical emergency involving altered mental status, severe hypertension, active bleeding from a head laceration, and signs consistent with a traumatic brain injury. Through your calm demeanor, clinical expertise, and coordinated teamwork, you quickly assessed the patient, recognized the severity of the situation, and initiated aggressive treatment measures to protect the patient's airway, control injury progression, and improve the chances for a positive outcome.  Today, the patient is expected to make a full recovery.

Incidents such as this highlight the critical role that highly trained firefighter-paramedics play in our community. Your ability to rapidly assess a complex situation, make sound clinical decisions under pressure, and seamlessly coordinate care with air medical personnel exemplifies the professionalism, competence, and dedication that define the Broward Sheriff's Office Department of Fire Rescue and Emergency Medical Services."

Incidents like this underscore the extensive training, dedication and teamwork required to manage complex calls while providing compassionate, lifesaving care to the community.

For this crews outstanding efforts and dedication in serving our community
they are recognized as the June 2026 BSO Weston Fire Rescue Employees of the Month
