Introducing BSO Weston Executive Lieutenant Peter Geary Jr.

Post Date:05/28/2026 8:00 AM

Lieutenant Peter Geary Jr. was recently appointed as Executive Officer (XO) of the Broward Sheriff’s Office (BSO) Weston District. He succeeds Lt. Michael Wagener and brings nearly two decades of law enforcement, investigative, homeland security and leadership experience to the Weston community.

Lt. Geary began his law enforcement career with the Broward Sheriff’s Office in 2007. Early in his career, he served as a road patrol deputy and field training officer in North Lauderdale and later as a police academy advisor at Broward College. In 2018, he was promoted to Sergeant, supervising road patrol operations in the City of Lauderdale Lakes and Unincorporated Central Broward before transitioning to the Child Protective Investigations Section as an administrative sergeant.

Following his promotion to Lieutenant in 2020, Lt. Geary served as Executive Officer for the Child Protective Investigations Section before joining the Homeland Security Section within the Strategic Investigations Division as Executive Officer. In that role, he oversaw several specialized units, including the Covert Electronic Surveillance Unit, Digital Forensics Unit, Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC), Homeland Security/Counterterrorism Unit, and Strategic Intelligence Unit.

Lt. Geary also served as co-commander of the South Florida ICAC Task Force, overseeing regional investigative and homeland security operations. In 2025, he joined BSO’s Training & Organizational Development Division, where he helped develop leadership training programs and implement a modern Learning Management System for the agency.

Lt. Geary holds a Master of Science degree in Disaster & Emergency Management from Nova Southeastern University and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminology & Middle Eastern Studies from Florida State University. His honors include the Southern Police Institute’s Command Development Course Directors Award (Valedictorian), as well as a Public Safety Special Operations Award and Lifesaving Award.

But who is the person behind the uniform?

A native South Floridian, Lt. Geary grew up in Cooper City. During his time at Florida State University, he had the opportunity to travel abroad to Lebanon and was there during the 2006 Lebanese–Israeli War. He later traveled to Israel with the Broward Sheriff’s Office as part of a law enforcement information-exchange program, an experience he described as both unique and incredibly rewarding.

Outside of work, Lt. Geary enjoys cycling and has ridden his bicycle to Washington, D.C. multiple times for National Police Week, starting from locations including Missouri, Boston, and Jacksonville.

These days, much of Lt. Geary’s free time is devoted to his family. Life with three toddlers keeps the household moving at full speed.

Lt. Geary is excited to continue his career serving the public here in Weston.

We welcome Lt. Peter Geary Jr. to Weston and look forward to his leadership and experience as he works alongside Chief Sam Cavalieri in protecting our community.
