City Commission and Chief Cavalieri honor BSO Weston Detective Michael Kravecz

A disturbing attempted sexual assault in broad daylight on April 8th in Weston was met with a thorough and methodical investigation, resulting in the identification of the suspect within one week. BSO Weston Detective Michael Kravecz conducted extensive ‘old school’ door-to-door canvasing of the area until he located a witness who recognized the suspect from the media release image and provided a retail location where that suspect had been seen.  Reviewing surveillance footage led to his identification. Detective Kravecz then built a solid case and developed probable cause for the suspect's arrest, restoring a renewed sense of calm and safety within our community.

Read the details as described by Chief Sam Cavalieri at the City Commission Meeting of May 4, 2026.

Thank you for the opportunity to acknowledge the exceptional dedication and service of our first responders.  Tonight, it is my honor to recognize Weston District Detective, Michael Kravecz.

On April 8th, deputies responded to a very disturbing incident at the Country Club Village community in Weston, reference an attempted sexual battery. The victim reported being attacked from behind by an unknown suspect, who forced her to the ground and attempted to assault her before she was able to courageously break free and escape, causing the suspect to flee the area on foot.

Acknowledging the severity of this crime and the immediate danger that it posed to our community, Detective Kravecz was immediately assigned to this priority case and began a thorough and methodical investigation. He obtained and carefully reviewed surveillance footage, which captured not only the attack, but also the concerning behavior by the suspect that clearly identified his criminal intent.

Working in conjunction with our Crime Analyst, Detective Kravecz quickly developed and distributed a “Need to Identify” flyer, and worked with the Broward Sheriff’s Office, Public Information Office, and local media to generate leads.

In the following days, Detective Kravecz conducted extensive “old school” type canvassing of the surrounding area, by revisiting and knocking on the doors of both residential and commercial locations, in search of information that could move the case forward.  His persistence paid off when he located a witness who recognized the suspect from the media release and gave a local retail location where he saw the suspect on the day of the crime. Surveillance footage from this location ultimately lead to the identification of the suspect and his residence within a week of this crime occurring.

Detective Kravecz continued to build a strong case and develop probable cause for his arrest by locating additional video evidence in the immediate area showing the suspect leaving and returning home wearing the same clothing.  On April 17th, a positive identification was obtained from an independent witness, solidifying the case and ultimately leading to the arrest of the 17-year-old offender, quickly restoring the safety and peace in our community.

Through countless hours of reviewing surveillance footage, tireless canvassing, and his unwavering commitment to finding justice for the victim and protecting our community, Detective Kravecz demonstrated exceptional investigative skill and determination.

For his outstanding efforts and dedication in protecting and serving our community, it is my honor to recognize Detective Michael Kravecz for the May 2026 employee of the month.
