The City of Weston has received the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for its Annual Comprehensive Financial Report for the fiscal year ended September 30, 2024. Weston has been the recipient of this award for 27 consecutive years.
RECOGNITION PROGRAM
This award is the highest form of recognition in the field of governmental accounting and financial reporting. It reflects the City’s ongoing commitment to transparency, accuracy, and clear communication about how public funds are managed.
Weston’s financial report was reviewed by an impartial panel and judged to meet the rigorous standards of the GFOA’s Certificate of Achievement program. These standards go beyond basic accounting requirements and emphasize a “spirit of full disclosure,” ensuring that the City’s financial story is presented clearly and in a way that is accessible to residents, stakeholders, and other users of the report.
Established in 1945, the GFOA’s Certificate of Achievement program was created to encourage state and local governments to produce comprehensive financial reports that exceed generally accepted accounting principles. Earning the certificate signifies that a government has not only met those high standards, but has also demonstrated sound financial management and a strong dedication to openness and accountability.
Receiving this recognition represents a significant accomplishment for the City of Weston and its management team. It reinforces the City’s focus on responsible fiscal practices and its commitment to providing residents with clear, reliable information about the City’s financial position.
The City congratulates its finance staff and leadership of Director of Accounting, Cindy Tao, and Assistant City Manager/Chief Financial Officer, Darrel Thomas, for their continued excellence and for once again achieving this distinguished honor.

The recognition independently validates the quality of the City’s financial reporting
and should give the City’s residents confidence that their tax dollars
are properly accounted for to the highest scrutiny.
