The City of Weston proudly recognizes BSO Weston Law Enforcement Deputy Kelly Bober for her swift actions to a domestic-related false imprisonment/kidnapping call.

On Saturday, October 4^th, Central Broward District deputies responded to a domestic related false imprisonment / kidnapping call.  On scene family members advised that their 36-year-old daughter was being held against her will by her boyfriend as they drove in his rented vehicle. 

Thanks to the victim’s courage and presence of mind, she was able to call her mother and send a text message that they were at the intersection of Saddle Club Road and North New River Circle.  Recognizing the urgency for the victim’s safety in this critically sensitive and volatile domestic situation, Central Broward deputies quickly relayed the information to our Weston deputies, who immediately responded to the area to locate the vehicle. 

Deputy Bober immediately responded to the area and was able to locate the suspect vehicle.  Confirming the tag was registered to a rental company, Deputy Bober maintained visual contact and updated her location and direction of travel while awaiting back-up units, so she could conduct a felony traffic stop.  As the vehicle traveled north it pulled into the Shell gas station at 251 South Flamingo Road, where deputies successfully conducted the traffic stop.  Both occupants, one of which was our victim, were safely removed from the vehicle without further incident. 

The victim did confirm that her boyfriend was holding her against her will and advised while he was driving erratically, he called his mother and told her that he loved her and asked his mother to tell his children that he loved them.  These statements, along with his erratic behavior placed the victim in fear for her life, not knowing what her boyfriend’s ultimate intentions were.

The suspect in this case, who has a violent criminal history, and is a convicted felon, was arrested and charged with False Imprisonment.   

This case clearly demonstrates the exceptional teamwork and communication between both districts.  Deputy Bober’s quick, decisive actions to this critical incident resulted in the most favorable outcome, by safely recovering the victim from this escalating domestic incident, that could have easily resulted in further violence.
