
Todd Draizin, BSO District Chief for the City of Weston, has earned his Chief Fire Officer (CFO) designation, joining a select group of fire service leaders nationwide.
There are currently 221 individuals (not retired) with the Chief Fire Officer designation in the entire State of Florida, officially recognized by the Center for Public Safety Excellence (CPSE) Commission on Professional Credentialing. To apply, individuals must hold the rank of Battalion Chief or above.
The CFO designation is a prestigious professional recognition that demonstrates Chief Draizin’s commitment to continuous learning, professional development, and leadership within the fire and emergency services field. To achieve this designation, applicants must undergo a rigorous peer-review process evaluating their education, experience, leadership, community involvement, and contributions to the profession. During the process, the applicant must demonstrate how they have supported 17 key components of professional competency:
1. Education – formal academic training and degrees.
2. Experience – career progression and diverse fire service roles.
3. Professional Development – ongoing courses, certifications, and training.
4. Professional Contributions – advancing the profession through teaching, writing, or committee work.
5. Association Membership – active involvement in professional organizations.
6. Community Involvement – volunteerism and engagement beyond the fire service.
7. Technical Competence – knowledge of fire, EMS, and emergency management operations.
8. Professionalism – ethical conduct, integrity, and leadership standards.
9. Community Involvement at the Local Level – direct service to local organizations and initiatives.
10. Advocating for the Profession – promoting fire service causes and standards.
11. Leadership – proven ability to guide teams, projects, and organizations.
12. Mentoring – developing and supporting future leaders.
13. Succession Planning – ensuring organizational continuity and leadership pipelines.

15. Health and Safety – promoting firefighter wellness and safe practices.
