On September 22, 2024, at approximately 11:52 a.m., the below listed members of BSO Fire Rescue responded to a serious motorcycle accident on U.S. Highway 27 near Griffin Road.

Upon arrival, they found the motorcyclist ejected, approximately 75 feet from the vehicle, suffering from critical injuries including multiple fractures, an open head injury, and internal bleeding. Through their rapid assessment and expert care, including airway management, advanced life support, and the administration of whole blood, the patient was successfully stabilized and transported by air rescue to Memorial Hospital.

After more than 25 days of hospitalization and multiple surgeries, the patient was last known to have been transferred to a rehabilitation facility with a promising prognosis for a return to independent living. This positive outcome is a direct reflection of their clinical skill, teamwork, and unwavering commitment to delivering the highest standard of care.

Weston Fire Chief Todd Draizin added, "Thank you for your vigilance, professionalism, and dedication to making a lasting impact in the lives of those we serve. Your efforts truly make a difference in our community."

In recognition of their swift and lifesaving actions, Thomas Mormelo, Nicholas Marese, Grant Biddison, Robert Connolly, Anthony Luzardo, Brian Calzadilla, and Neal Todd have been named the City of Weston’s BSO Fire Rescue Employees of the Month for August 2025.
