A Milestone for Weston, and Florida
The City of Weston is delighted to announce that Mayor Margaret “Peggy” Brown, Weston’s first female mayor and dedicated community leader, has officially been sworn in as President of the Florida League of Mayors (FLM) for the 2025–2026 term. This follows her election as President‑Elect in August 2024 and highlights the confidence her peers across the state have in her leadership.
During her term as President‑Elect (2024–2025), Mayor Brown worked alongside then‑President Nancy Miller of Daytona Beach Shores, gaining insight and forging statewide connections that will now inform her presidency.
Founded in 2005, the Florida League of Mayors is a member-driven nonprofit organization that supports, educates, and connects mayors across the state. Governed by a Board of Directors, FLM fosters vision, leadership, and public service, learning to be better mayors within their communities.

The Florida League of Mayors core values are:
Service, Collaboration, Respect, Influence, Integrity, Commitment, Communication, Accountability, and Education.
Some of its key programs include:
-
Educational Opportunities - Workshops, regional meetings, Zoom webinars, and specialized forums addressing topics like grant funding, infrastructure, communication, public speaking, running meetings and working with other municipal officials.
-
Programming - City Catalyst Grants, offering up to $2,500 to support innovative projects that enhance community life—examples include mentoring programs, public garden projects, park enhancements, and more. If I Were Elected Mayor Program, inviting 6th–8th graders to reflect on how Home Rule can make a difference in their communities. Winners may receive gift cards and recognition. Innovation Awards Program, which highlights municipalities leading with cost-saving, creative, citizen- and business-friendly initiatives.
-
Advocacy - State and Federal advocacy coordinating with the FLC legislative team and director; Encourage and facilitate mayors involvement in FLC advocacy efforts, Home Rule Heroes and Local Voices United Ambassador Program.
-
Networking - Networking should never be understated. It is encouraged along with Deputy/Vice Mayors around the state at annual events, conferences, Legislative Action Days and more, sharing best practices.
Overall, FLM offers a platform for mayors to exchange solutions, advocate together before the state legislature, and uplift municipal administration across Florida. Here in Weston, with Mayor Brown leading the League, Weston's priorities and concerns will certainly have excellent visibility in legislative discussions, and we will be sure to be positioned to share in best practices from across Florida.
Congratulations to Mayor Brown, and to Weston,
as she begins this exciting chapter leading Florida’s mayors.
