Two city staff members, Donny Wright and Wesley Greaves were recognized for 25 years of service at the July 7, 2025 City Commission Meeting where they received their 25-year pin and glass award. 

In an era where the average employee tenure in the United States is 4.1 years, according to recent data from the Bureau of Labor Statistic, it was a significant milestone to celebrate two individuals on their 25 years with the City of Weston. 

WESLEY GREAVES

Senior Field Engineer, Development Services

This year, the City of Weston proudly celebrates Wesley Greaves, Senior Field Engineer in the Development Services Department, for an impressive 25 years of service.

Wesley is known throughout the organization not only for his expertise, but for his warmth and positivity, like your favorite uncle, always ready with a smile and a kind word. That approachable nature, however, is matched by a serious commitment to his role, one that has made a profound and lasting impact on Weston’s infrastructure and residents over the last quarter century.

City Manager Don Decker offered high praise for Wesley’s contributions:

“If I were to put a name to the definition of Institutional Knowledge of Weston, that name could easily be Wesley Greaves. His vast knowledge of City infrastructure benefits our residents and businesses every day—not only because he ensures high-quality work, but because he does so with safety as a guiding principle. There is no corner of the City your work has not improved, be it along our roadways, in our parks, or in our neighborhoods and commercial areas. While our residents and business owners may not fully realize the significance of your contributions, I do... and I applaud it.”

Throughout his career, Wesley has found the greatest joy in working directly with Weston’s residents. "I love to interact with the residents first and foremost," Wesley stated. He regularly engages with homeowners to help them better understand the development process and city requirements when it comes to permitting and property improvements. His ability to educate and guide residents through sometimes complex systems is just one more way he exemplifies public service at its best.

Outside of work, Wesley enjoys staying active and connected. He plays table tennis at the Broward Table Tennis Club, stays fit at the gym, and travels abroad when he can. 

At home, Wesley shares life with his wife, Marcelle, and their two children, Vanessa and Gregory. He also remains closely connected to his siblings and their families.  One of his favorite traditions is attending family reunions each year, something he prioritizes to maintain close bonds with his extended family.  

A proud supporter of South Florida’s sports teams, Wesley cheers on them all, but has a special place in his heart for the Miami Heat and Miami Dolphins.

Reflecting on his time with the City, Wesley says one of his greatest satisfactions has been seeing Weston grow and evolve over the years. From his early days on the job to the present, he’s watched the City transform, and has played an integral role in making that transformation possible.

Congratulations and thank you, Wesley, for 25 years of service, leadership, and heart. The City of Weston is better because of you.  You are certainly a part of 'The Weston Way'.

Drainage and Streets Technician, Public Works

Celebrating 25 Years of Service: A Quarter Century of Dedication in Weston’s Public Works

This year marks a major milestone for one of Weston’s most dedicated team members in the Public Works Department: 25 years of service. Our Drainage and Streets Technician, who joined the City of Weston back when the community was still in its early stages of development, has witnessed—and played a part in—Weston’s transformation into the vibrant, beautifully maintained city we know today.

“When I started, we worked out of a small, three-room trailer with one backhoe and just enough tools to get by,” he recalls. “Most of what you see today—neighborhoods, roadways, parks—used to be cow pastures and rock pits.” Fast forward 25 years, and Weston’s Public Works team operates out of a state-of-the-art compound equipped with all the tools necessary to keep the City in top shape.

Donny's job is very diversified.  It includes aquatic plant control, canal debris removal and the maintenance of roadways and water control structures.  He provides the inspection, rehabilitation, cleaning and maintenance of canal stormwater inlets, pipes and City owned catch basins, roadways and sidewalks. 

Throughout his career, he’s remained passionate about solving problems, taking on new projects, and building connections with residents. “Every day is a little different,” he says. “That’s what keeps the job interesting. I love helping maintain and improve the city for the people who live here.”

Weston’s family-oriented, community-driven atmosphere is a big part of what keeps him inspired. “It’s just a beautiful place to work. I feel proud to be part of a team that helps support the quality of life our residents enjoy.”

In addition to his many professional contributions, he also has stories that bring some unexpected adventure to the job—like the time he helped relocate a black bear. “In 2009, there were reports of a bear rummaging through trash bins around Weston,” he explains. “Eventually, the Florida Wildlife Commission located the bear in a tree near Bonaventure and Royal Palm Boulevard. A crowd had gathered to watch. After they tranquilized it, my supervisor David Dove and I helped carry the 200 lb. bear and place it safely into a special cage for transport to a state park in North Florida. That’s not something you expect in your workday!”

Outside of work, this long-time staff member keeps things fun and laid-back. He enjoys fishing, catching the latest movies, and binge-watching Netflix. A proud South Florida sports fan, he cheers for the Miami Dolphins and the University of Miami Hurricanes.

At home, he is surrounded by a close-knit and loving family. “I have a wonderful family, my mom, two sisters, three nieces, and a nephew,” he shares. “And I have my fiancé and stepdaughter, whom I love dearly.”

City Manager Don Decker stated, " When I am asked what makes Weston so special, I always go back to the people I have worked with.  When you enjoy your coworkers, a job is so much easier.  Donny, you are a class act".  As we celebrate Donny's 25 years of service, we honor not just his professional dedication, but the heart and pride he brings to work every day. Weston is lucky to have him, and so are the residents who benefit from his commitment to making Weston the best it can be.
