On May 29, 2025, Mandell 'Manny' Mitchell celebrated his 100th birthday at The Palace in Weston where he resides.  He shared the celebration with family (including great-grandchildren), friends, and Palace staff who are like extended family.  

It was quite the occasion.  Balloons, banners, musician, cake, champagne and more, all for a gentleman who served his country, our government, and his loving family with honor and devotion.  Weston Mayor Margaret Brown, accompanied by Commissioner Byron L. Jaffe, presented Manny with a Proclamation congratulating him on his 100th birthday and thanking him for his military service.

Mandell 'Manny' Mitchell was born in Brooklyn on May 29, 1925, to immigrant parents from Eastern Europe. At age 17, Manny was drafted into the army, and became an infantry soldier in World War II, serving on the front line in the fall of 1944 in Europe during a period of the occupation.  

After his military service, Manny attended City College of NY, then Brooklyn Law School at night, after which he pursued a Master's in Taxation at New York University.  Manny returned to the military, joining the Reserves, becoming a Captain in the JAG Corps, the Judge Advocate General's. 

In 1956, love was in the air, when he met his soulmate, Suzanne Mannhiemer.  They married soon after, and were married for over 68 years until her passing.  Their family grew to include two sons, Charles and Edward, three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Manny and his family have been in Florida since 1966, most of it in Weston.  His many hobbies included target shooting, cycling, photography and travel, with his favorite place being Paris.  The French government awarded him a medal for being a soldier who helped to liberate France during the occupation of World War II.  

Manny retired at the age of 58 from the federal government, as an appellate officer in Estate and Gift Tax.  He moved into The Palace after the passing of his beloved wife and continues to enjoy life and be a friend to all.  His son noted that Manny came up with a saying years ago that became a family motto: "Anything worth doing is worth doing to excess."  Manny has lived by that motto, living a full, active and great life.
