Weston CERT Participates in Joint Mass Casualty Incident Disaster Drill

The Weston Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) joined forces with neighboring CERT programs for a large-scale Mass Casualty Incident (MCI) Disaster Drill, reinforcing vital emergency response skills in a simulated crisis scenario. The drill, organized by Coral Springs/Parkland CERT, took place at Sherwood Forest Park. Volunteers acting as "victims" for the day were transformed by makeup artists to showcase realistic wounds and injuries.

Held in collaboration with members from Coral Springs CERT, Deerfield Beach CERT, Plantation CERT, Pembroke Pines CERT, and Miramar CERT, the drill provided CERT volunteers with hands-on experience in triage, search and rescue, first aid, and team coordination—essential skills in the event of a real-life disaster. Participants navigated realistic challenges, working alongside other teams to assess injuries, provide immediate care, and manage an evolving emergency scene.

This type of training ensures CERT members are prepared to assist first responders and provide critical support to the community when it is needed most.

CERT programs are designed to empower trained volunteers to step in during emergencies, bridging the gap before professional responders arrive. Exercises like this enhance readiness, build teamwork, and ultimately contribute to a safer, more resilient community.
