Broward County Animal Care is joining the fight against hunger by participating in Hunger Action Month, a nationwide campaign to raise awareness about food insecurity. According to Feeding South Florida, roughly 250,000 people in Broward County face food instability. This staggering number highlights the growing need for community support and resources to feed families and pets. Throughout September, Animal Care is participating in various initiatives and providing pet food to families in need.

"Broward County Animal Care recognizes that when families struggle, their pets often suffer," said Doug Brightwell, Broward County Animal Care Director. "By participating in Hunger Action Month, we hope to make a positive impact on the lives of people and pets in the County. We want to do our part to provide assistance and help remove barriers to hunger."

The rising cost of living is causing many families to make tough decisions. Hunger Action Month is a call to action for communities nationwide to unite against hunger, and Animal Care aims to help alleviate the financial burden and ensure people and pets can access food.

KEY INITIATIVES INCLUDE:

• Family and Pet Food Drives: Participating in the County's Hunger Action Month food drive and distributing free pet food to needy families. For more information, call 954-357-1313.

• Free Pet Wellness Clinics: In collaboration with local municipalities (Oakland Park, Fort Lauderdale, and West Park) and Broward County Library, Animal Care will offer free pet wellness clinics. These clinics provide vaccinations, microchipping, and wellness checks to ensure pets are healthy and protected. Schedule an appointment today. 

• Free Pet Adoptions: Adoption fees are being waived for dogs and cats in agency custody.

Please Help If You Can | Donations Accepted at City Hall through October 31

The City of Weston will take donations of PET FOOD along with our regular food drive through October 31 and will provide it to Animal Care to be distributed.
