Senior Hall of Fame Inductees Honored
Dr. Jorge A. Lopez and Joy Rodenberg
On June 17, 2024, two residents of Weston were inducted into the Dr. Nan S. Huchinson Broward County Senior Hall of Fame along with nine others of Broward County’s finest seniors, recognized for their volunteer excellence. The Senior Hall of Fame is comprised of seniors 60 and older who have performed outstanding volunteer work in Broward for five or more years. Both Weston nominees far surpass these qualifications. Dr. Jorge A. Lopez and Joy Rodenberg continue to serve Weston and beyond.
Joy Rodenberg
Joy Rodenberg is in large part the reason Weston has the thriving arts and cultural community that it does. Joy is a founding member of the Arts Council of Greater Weston, including being its president for four years and The Philharmonic Society now known as the Weston Music Society. She has taken the helm at the Weston Foreign Film Festival and initiated the popular Celebrate the Arts event and the Arts Council newsletter. She is also a member of the Lifelong Learning Institute at Nova Southeastern University, including being a moderator and coordinator of groups. At 88 years young, Joy has a smile for everyone she greets and her tireless efforts motivate others and are an inspiration to those three-quarters her age!
The City Commission recognized Joy Rodenberg at a City Commission meeting with a proclamation acknowledging her mark on the community and induction into the Hall of Fame.
Dr. Jorge Lopez
Dr. Lopez has dedicated his retirement to service to The Ostomy and Feeding Supply Bank and the uninsured, homeless and destitute populations in need. Dr. Lopez’s further contributions include hands-on training and education; personally delivering supplies to emergency medical shelters; supporting The South Florida Ostomy and Tube Feeding/HPN Support Group; and being a positive and enthusiastic inspiration to countless individuals. The City of Weston was honored to present Dr. Lopez with a proclamation acknowledging his mark on the community and induction into the Hall of Fame.
