On Tuesday, February 20, 2024, the Weston City Commission and Chief Todd Draizin, BSO Weston Fire Chief, honored Lt. Steven Stout as the BSO Weston Employee of Month.  Lt. Stout is retiring after 38 years of service with BSO Fire Rescue and Emergency Services and we would like to provide you with the recognition that was read by Chief Draizin at the meeting, as it is befitting the hero and gentleman that Lt. Stout truly is.  We wish he and his wife a healthy and happy retirement and thank him for his service and dedication over all of these years. 

"Today, we gather to honor an exceptional individual who has dedicated over four decades of his life to serving and protecting the citizens of Broward County. It is my privilege to stand before you to recognize the outstanding contributions of Lieutenant Steven Stout.

Lt. Stout's journey in public service began long before he joined our esteemed ranks. Having served as a Marine in the US Military, Lt. Stout's commitment to duty and his unwavering sense of service were already deeply ingrained within him. Upon his honorable discharge in 1985, he sought a path to continue serving his community, initially considering joining the Fort Lauderdale Police Department and quickly coming to his senses. Fate had other plans, guiding him to the fire service where he found his true calling.

Joining the Cooper City Fire Rescue in January of 1986, Lt. Stout embarked on a journey marked by dedication, professionalism, and countless acts of heroism. His steadfast commitment to excellence saw him rise through the ranks, eventually attaining the position of Lieutenant in 2002. The merger of Cooper City Fire Rescue with the Broward Sheriff's Office in 2003, led Lt. Stout to his cherished home serving the City of Weston since 2008.

Lt. Stout's tenure in the fire service has been defined by moments of courage and selflessness, but perhaps none more unforgettable than his leadership during the commercial structure fire at Cleveland Clinic Hospital.  As the first unit on the scene, Lt. Stout's decisive actions and command expertise were instrumental in swiftly bringing the situation under control, ensuring the safety of all involved and minimizing disruption to vital hospital services.

Beyond his remarkable achievements on the job, Lt. Stout's character and dedication shine brightly in every aspect of his life. His roots may trace back to Columbus, Ohio, where some of our other esteemed leaders called home, but Florida has been Steve’s home since 1966, where he attended school in Pompano Beach. His commitment to his community extends far beyond the call of duty, embodying the values of integrity, compassion, and service.

As we reflect on Lt. Stout's illustrious career, let us also take a moment to reminisce about the year 1986, the year he joined our ranks. It was a time marked by significant events, including Hands Across America where millions of people joined hands to form a human chain across the United States, spanning over 4,000 miles, to raise awareness and funds for the fight against hunger and homelessness. The unveiling of the first laptop computer by IBM weighing a mere 12 pounds, and the release of the iconic film starring Tom Cruise as Lieutenant Pete Mitchell "Top Gun." With the memorable movie line, “I feel the need... the need for speed!” was quoted endlessly by every driver across the United States.  While the world around us evolved, Lt. Stout remained steadfast in his commitment to serving and protecting others, leaving an indelible mark on our community.

It brings me great joy to share that Lt. Stout and his family have made the decision to embark on a new chapter in their lives, really a continuation of their current calling. They are considering relocating to North Florida, where Lt. Stout, and his wife Sharon, will continue their spirit of service by serving at a local church, while their daughter Leeann heads off to college. This decision is a testament to the Stout family's deep-rooted commitment to making a positive impact wherever they go, both professionally, religiously, and personally.

While Lt. Stout may be transitioning from his role within our fire department, his legacy of service will undoubtedly endure. His dedication to helping others and his unwavering integrity will continue to inspire and serve as a guiding light.

In recognition of his outstanding service, dedication, and unwavering commitment to excellence, it is my honor to present Lieutenant Steven Stout as the Broward Sheriff’s Office Employee of the Month for the month of February. Please join me in congratulating him on this well-deserved honor and thanking him for his selfless service to the City of Weston and Broward County.
