At their March 20, 2023 meeting, the Commission re-established the Charter Review Board. According to the City Charter, the Charter shall be reviewed at least every ten years and a five-member Charter Review Board be appointed and funded by the City Commission.

Each Commissioner appoints one member from that member’s Residential Seat Area and the appointee of the Mayor shall reside within the city.

• Toby Feuer is appointed as Commissioner Molina-Macfie’s member of the Charter Review Board from Seat Area 4.

• Marc Weiss is appointed as Commissioner Jaffe’s member of the Charter Review Board from Seat Area 3.

• Peter Pecci is appointed as Commissioner Mead’s member of the Charter Review Board from Seat Area 2.

• Jacqueline Boswell is appointed as Commissioner Eddy’s member of the Charter Review Board from Seat Area 1.

• Fabio Andrade is appointed as Mayor Brown’s selected member of the Charter Review Board.

After discussion, it was decided that the Board would decide amongst themselves who would be the Chair when they meet. 

Pursuant to the Charter, the Charter Review Board shall be appointed at least 360 days before the next scheduled election and complete its work and present any recommendations for change no later than 180 days before the election.  As for the City Commission, they are required to hold a minimum of two public hearings on the proposed changes to the Charter prior to placing the proposed changes on the scheduled election ballot. 

The Board will begin its meetings in April 2023, meeting twice monthly through June, at which time they will provide their final recommendations to the City Commission (this schedule is tentative).  

In January 2024, the City Commission considers the Charter Review Board recommendations (if any)

In February, 2024, the City Commission considers amendment ordinances, if any on first reading. 

March, 2024, the City Commission considers Charter amendment ordinances, if any, on second reading.

May, 2024, the City Commission adopts resolution putting proposed amendments on the ballot.

June, 2024, Referendum Ballot Submittal to Supervisor of Elections

November 5, 2024   Election Day

The Charter Review Board has a lot of work before them and we thank each member for dedicating their time and skills to the community.  

UPDATE 4/2/24 - 

At the April 1, 2024 City Commission Meeting, the members of the Charter Review Board were recognized, thanked and honored for their service to the community.  
After working for many months, their recommendations were considered at their first public hearing prior to being placed on the November 2024 ballot.
