Lightning Prediction System (ThorGuard)

The full lightning prediction system is active in three major athletic parks: Tequesta Trace Park, Vista Park and Weston Regional Park.
The warning system will emit a loud horn blast, signaling that all park visitors must seek shelter. The system will give an "all-clear" by emitting three short horn blasts.

There is a partial system at Indian Trace Park that provides just the strobe light to indicate lightning, but no sound.

Inquiries on radius or how far the system 'reads' for lightning:

Thor Guard is a lightning prediction system, so it reads the electrostatics in the atmosphere. When there is a migration between the positive and negative ions in the atmosphere, it can tell you the probability of a lightning strike by sampling the atmosphere ahead and throughout the storm. The settings at Tequesta Trace Park (and relayed to the strobe at Indian Trace Park) is measured in minutes and not miles. The current settings will give you 8 - 20 minutes of advance warning at a 97% accuracy. The Lightning Sensor reads the atmosphere 170,000 times per second.

How to Report an Issue or Problem in a Park

Park or Playground issues can be reported in the following ways:

Weston Works App: Easily report the issue using a GPS location and even attach photos from your phone. Your request will go directly to our work order system. You do not need to download the app to report an issue. Just visit westonfl.qscend.com/311 and click “Request for Service” to get started. If you wish to receive updates or follow the progress of your request, you can download the app and create an account.

Send an email to Parks@westonfl.org: Parks staff will generate a maintenance or repair ticket and forward it to the appropriate department for resolution.

The park contains modular equipment by American Ramp Company.

Skaters must provide their own helmet, wrist guards, elbow pads and knee pads. Skate gear is not available for rent.

Access to the pickleball courts on the school campus is available to the public when not in use by the school.
