Safe Online Sales Exchanges - Meet at Weston Police Services Building
BSO WESTON ASKS ON-LINE SELLERS TO MEET POTENTIAL BUYERS
AT THE POLICE STATION
When selling items online, keep in mind that not all buyers are legitimate. Whenever possible, consider meeting strangers in a safe place. Starting immediately, BSO’s Weston district office’s parking lot will serve as a safe haven for the City’s online buyers and sellers to meet.
Weston’s Police Chief, Kevin Butler, said the City has experienced at least one case where a person was ripped off by a buyer when trying to sell something off Craigslist. The potential buyer met up with the seller and then snatched the item for sale from their hands and ran, police said.
Chief Butler said the premise is to conduct business in a relatively safe environment which would deter both sellers from ripping off potential customers and potential customers stealing from the sellers. The Police Department exchange is a growing trend nationwide.
Anyone who may have been a victim of an online sales scam may call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS (8477) or visit www.browardcrimestoppers.org.
Weston Police Services Building is located at 17300 Royal Palm Boulevard. The parking lot is accessible 24 hours a day.
