CPR immediately after a cardiac arrest (including drowning) can double or triple a victim’s chances of survival.
BSO Fire Rescue in Weston is launching a CPR Safe Community Initiative with the goal of certifying as many residents and those working in Weston as possible, through free and convenient 4-hour CPR classes.
Weeknight and weekend CPR classes will be offered as well as training at your facility at a time convenient for you (with 8 or more persons).
Data indicates that 88% of cardiac arrests occur in the home. Statistically, if you are ever at a scene where CPR is needed, the life you save is likely to be someone you love, not a stranger: your child, your spouse, a parent or friend.
After the cessation of blood flow from the heart stops, the brain is rapidly affected. Within minutes, parts of the brain become permanently damaged and the heart muscle begins to sustain permanent damage, eventually leading to death.
RECENT SUCCESS STORIES IN WESTON
A 5 year old was playing at a friend’s house and her family was there. Unbeknownst to anyone she slipped into the pool and doesn’t know how to swim. An adult finds the child in the pool and begins CPR and has 9-1-1 called. Paramedics treat the child who has regained a heartbeat and transport her to the hospital where she makes a complete recovery in only days without any neurological impairment.
An adult collapsed while exercising and went into sudden cardiac arrest. A bystander quickly began CPR, called 9-1-1 and utilized an AED at the facility (automated external defibrillator); the victim was breathing on his own when paramedics arrived. Upon further treatment this man made a complete recovery.
Where you trained in CPR years ago? You need to be recertified. Training has changed, and ideally, you should be recertified every two years.
