Elected unopposed to fill Seat 3, Commissioner Jim Norton was born in Philadelphia and grew up in Lansdowne, Pennsylvania before moving to Florida in 1980 to attend the University of Miami. There he graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration and was a member of the 1983 National Championship Football team. In 1997 Commissioner Norton earned his MBA from Florida International University's Executive Program.

In 1993, Commissioner Norton and his wife Candy moved to Weston and they have one son, Devin, who attends Cypress Bay High School. He has been a working professional in the publishing and printing industries for more than 20 years and he currently owns seven companies - Weston Lifestyle, Parkland Lifestyle, Estate Lifestyle, Las Olas Lifestyle, Coral Springs Lifestyle and Estero Lifestyle Magazines, along with The Choice Media, a print company. Commissioner Norton began his career with Harte-Hanks Direct Marketing, where he spent twelve years, ending his term there as Director of Sales. He went on to become Vice President and Publisher of the Tribune Company's Sun-Sentinel's Community News Group in Broward County. In 2001, Commissioner Norton launched two of his current companies, The Choice Media, a printing and direct mail firm where he currently serves as CEO and the Lifestyle Magazines, where he is Publisher and President.

In addition to his professional accomplishments, Commissioner Norton serves or has served on several civic and appointed boards including; The Greater Fort Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors (current), The West Broward YMCA (current); The Boys & Girls Clubs of Broward County Corporate Board (current), the Starlight Foundation Board of Directors (current); Honorary Co-Chair for the American Cancer Society Weston Relay for Life; Broward Prestige Club (current); Chancellor Charter School at Weston (2000-2003); Broward County Substance Abuse Board (Appointment - 1999-2001); James Jr.Fund/Joe DiMaggio Foundation (1998-2002) and Take Stock in Children (2001-2002). Commissioner Norton is also a graduate of the Leadership Broward Foundation Class XVIII and is the former Governor for Rotary International District 6990 where he oversaw 52 clubs in Dade, Broward & Monroe Counties, along with Grand Bahama Island in 2007 and 2008. He has been a Rotarian since 1989 serving as President for two clubs - Miami-Kendall and Weston.

Commissioner Norton has received much recognition for his community service including the Pinnacle Award from the Southwest Broward Regional Chamber of Commerce, a finalist for the South Florida Business Journal�s Up and Comer Award, named one of the South Florida's Finest Couples, a Diamantes Award Recipient, and a Hurricane Wilma Hero Recipient from the Cleveland Clinic.
