Commissioner Henriksson was elected to office in March of 2005 during an Election to fill Commission Seat 2. A graduate of Florida International University, Commissioner Henriksson holds a bachelor's degree in Business Administration and is employed as a Sales Manager with a major financial institution. Mercedes has almost 30 years of experience in the financial services and real estate industries in the areas of human resources, marketing and sales management, and strategic planning.
Among her many affiliations and volunteer activities, she served on the Board of the Weston Philharmonic, Country Isles Elementary School PTA, SAC Member for Tequesta Trace Middle School , Western Area Little League Board Member, & Weston Rattlers Travel Baseball organization Board Member. She is currently, a member of the Weston Chapter of the American Association of University Women, Mujeres Latinas Impulsando Mujeres Latinas, Hadassah, and Weston Friends of the Library.
Born in Madrid, Spain, and raised in Miami since the age of six, Commissioner Henriksson is fluent in both English and Spanish. Married to her husband Otto, with one son, Matthew, Commissioner Henriksson is extremely active in a variety of civic organizations within Weston and throughout Broward County.
In 2007, she received the International Women Merit Award from the Broward International Women's Club, the Hispanic Women of Distinction by Hispanic Women of Distinction Charity and the Politician of the Year by "Our City Weston" magazine. In 2008, she was honored as a Woman of Style and Substance by the Symphony of the Americas.
