City Commissioner Angel Gomez was elected to office in January 2008, to fill the unexpired term of Seat No. 1, taking office on February 4, 2008. He is a graduate of Western High School, holds a Bachelor's Degree from the University of Central Florida and a Master's Degree in Educational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University. He has applied his education to teaching others for the past 16 years, and is currently a Broward County High School Administrator.
Among his many affiliations and volunteer activities, Commissioner Gomez is the 2009-2010 Advocacy Chair for the Weston Relay for Life, a Board Member for "Project Dog-star" - a non-profit organization that builds schools in third world countries, an appointed member of the School Board of Broward County Facilities Task Force, a member of the Kiwanis Club of Weston, the Weston Business Chamber of Commerce, the Country Isles Elementary School PTA, the National Association of School Administrators, the Broward County Principals and Assistant Principals Association, "Mujeres Latinas of Broward County", and a Life-Member of Hadassah. He is a former Board Member of the C.O.P.E. - T.I.G.E.R.S. - the political arm of the Broward Teachers Union, was formerly involved as a staff member of the School Board of Broward County "South Florida Leadership Training Camp" at Nova Southeastern University, and former Member of the City of Weston Planning and Zoning Advisory Board.
Commissioner Gomez was born in Puerto Rico in 1969 and grew up in Venezuela, moving to the Bonaventure/Weston area of South Florida in 1984. He is married to his beautiful wife Stephanie and they have three gorgeous children: Samantha, Andrew, and Jacob. With a busy career, a bustling household and many community activities, Commissioner Gomez still finds time to enjoy golfing and tennis, while taking to the water for some wave running and water skiing.
