The City of Weston is one of the safest cities in South Florida. Weston contracts with the Sheriff of Broward County for the provision of law enforcement services, being a part of the Sheriff’s District VIII, which is headquartered within the City, in our City owned Police Services Building. The Broward Sheriff’s Office in Weston works tirelessly to ensure that Weston residents feel safe in their homes and throughout our community.

In 2005 the City amended its contract with the Sheriff’s Office to provide for 15 of Weston’s deputies to become certified as public safety divers. Three certified divers will be available at all times and will carry equipment to search for and remove victims who have become trapped under water in our lakes and canals.

The City is divided into seven patrol zones, with twenty-four hour service being provided by the following complement:

1 District Commander (Chief)
1 Executive Officer/Lieutenant
2 Lieutenant
7 Sergeants
1 Motorcycle Sergeant
42 Deputies
6 Motor Deputies
1 Community Policing Deputy
1 Investigative Aide
10 Community Service Aides
1 Secretary
3 Criminal Investigations/Detectives Deputies
1 Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Deputy
In addition to the routine patrol complement, the City has partnered with the Sheriff to create the Community Strategies Team (CST). This unique concept is an analytically driven program that directs its crime prevention and criminal apprehension activities based upon the statistics generated within the City. The hours of the CST are purposely flexible to be able to provide either a constant or forceful response to those activities that threaten Weston's valued quality of life. The CST is comprised of the following complement:
1 Sergeant
7 Deputy Sheriff's

9 Community Service Aides – Indian Trace Development District

5 Community Service Aides – Bonaventure Development District

The City of Weston provides five School Resource Deputies for the public schools located within the City.  The deputies report to the City's District Chief.

The Sheriff's Office offers many programs to the City's residents, including Citizens on Patrol (COPS), Seniors and Law Enforcement Together (S.A.L.T.), crime prevention programs and activities, vehicle identification etching, and bicycle registration.

Being a part of the Sheriff's organization, the City is able to have the use of, at no additional expense, all of the specialized services offered by the Sheriff, to include aviation, canine, underwater rescue, bomb and arson, SWAT, mounted patrol.

The Weston district headquarters is staffed and open twenty-four hours per day, seven days per week. Inquiries regarding police matters and accident reports, may be made at the Weston district headquarters during the hours of 9am-5pm; the lobby is open from 6:30am-10:30pm. Emergency and non-emergency calls are answered at and dispatched from the Sheriff's Public Safety Building located in Fort Lauderdale.

Bicycle Registration & Deterring Bike Theft

The majority of bicycle thefts are crimes of convenience. Someone will see an unsecured bike, hop on and go to where they want to go. The bike is oftentimes then just left there. Locking a bike to a secure object or placing inside a closed garage is the best safeguard against theft.

REGISTER YOUR BIKE: To greatly increase the chance of having a lost or stolen bike returned, register on-line with the Broward Sheriff’s Office BikeTrack, which can be accessed through the Sheriff’s Office website at www.sheriff.org or you can call our Weston Police Services at 954-389-2010.

Residents - Please lock your vehicles

Car burglaries in residential neighborhoods tend to be a crime of opportunity, due to the fact that many people leave items in their vehicle, and their vehicle unlocked.

In 2007, 64% of car burglaries in Weston occurred in
unlocked vehicles

Take away the opportunity

Weston is a very safe community - but residents must still be vigilant of crime prevention. Whether in your driveway or parked on the street, always lock your car when it is unattended.
